WITH bad weather on the horizon, one animal charity has released ways we can keep our furry friends warm this winter.
PDSA has compiled the list in a bid to keep pets safe and warm.
PDSA Vet Lynne James said: “Winter can be a dangerous time for all animals, but fine coated, poorly, young or elderly pets are at higher risk of hypothermia in freezing temperatures.
“Thankfully, there are simple steps we can all take to keep our precious furry family members safe, warm and healthy as the mercury drops.”
The first tip is to use extra layers such as a well-fitting, fully lined waterproof coat to help keep dogs warm.
This is especially helpful if your dog is old or has thin fur.
Keep the hair between dogs and cats' paw pads trimmed as ice and snow can be painful for pets if stuck between their paws.
Using paw butter can prevent sore, cracked pads.
Using a shed or car-free garage can be a helpful way to keep outdoor pets such as rabbits or Guinea pigs from the elements.
They should still have access to natural light and plenty of space to run around.
Pets should have extra bedding over winter – igloo beds are ideal to help cats stay warm during the winter months.
