MORE than 5,800 complaints were made to Barnsley Council regarding messy gardens over the last five years – the second most in the UK.
A Freedom of Information request shows that a total of 5,883 complaints were made to the council between 2020 and 2025.
The most common reason for reports was due to dog fouling – responsible for 6.7 per cent of complaints – with overgrown gardens making up 5.1 per cent and dumped sofas and chairs accounting for 2.8 per cent.
This was followed by rubbish bags at two per cent.
Only Bradford residents submitted more complaints in the UK.
