BARNSLEY Garden Party is returning to Barnsley town centre later this month.
Taking place from 11am-4pm, on Saturday May 24, the free, family-friendly event offers a line-up of spectacular performances, outdoor arts and creative activities.
The Glass Works Square will come alive with some of the UK’s leading artists and most incredible performances including: BAMBOO, a high-impact outdoor circus production using only bamboo and human bodies; Ancient Giants, 10ft puppets in a spectacular retelling of South Asian folklore, with a combination of dance and martial arts, plus Barnsley’s very own Frumptarn Guggenband.
Creative drop-in workshops include nature-based printmaking at the Library @ the Lightbox, build your own adventure playground and craft paper sunflower sculptures in The Glass Works Square, plus an interactive art exhibition at Barnsley Civic titled ‘Come As You Really Are’ by Hetain Patel.
Art of PALM Dance Dojo, Barnsley’s brightest street dance troupe, will be bringing the party vibes to the event with performances on The Glass Works Square and in the Alhambra Shopping Centre.
Coun. Robin Franklin, Cabinet Spokesperson for Regeneration and Culture at Barnsley Council said: “For the third year in a row, the return of the Barnsley Garden Party marks a fantastic opportunity to celebrate creativity and art.
"The Barnsley Garden Party has now become a staple in the town centre events calendar, along with the Barnsley Big Weekend and the International Market, which saw great success on its return last month.
“To be able to celebrate art and creativity in the heart of Barnsley’s town centre is a real honour and emphasises our commitment to promoting creative opportunities.”
