PEOPLE interested in the beautiful game can attend a talk in Wath next week.

On Thursday from 2pm, local football historian Chris Brook will be on hand at the St James’ Room, Church Street, to speak about the deep heritage of football in the Don and Dearne Valley areas.

Chris has pushed campaigns for blue plaques for the FA Cup-winning Robledo brothers and legendary scout Mark Crook.

Along with Barnsley Chronicle journalist, Ashley Ball, he is currently working on a book to celebrate Mark’s achievements in the game which saw him help more than 100 youngsters into professional football with most heading to Wolverhampton Wanderers via his Wath Wanderers feeder team who were based at Brampton.

There is a small entrance fee on arrival to Wath Community History Group.
