A DISCOUNT supermarket giant has released a list of locations it wants to build new stores in Yorkshire - and there are four in Barnsley.

Lidl are set to invest £500m in its expansion this year - and the company is eyeing up locations in the town.

Cudworth, Hoyland, Goldthorpe/Thurnscoe and Penistone have all been earmarked as desired locations for the firm.

Richard Taylor, chief development officer at Lidl, said: “Our latest site requirements brochure reinforces the scale of our ambition for the future.

“New Lidl stores mean new jobs, new opportunities for British suppliers, and continued investment into local economies.

“We’re proud to be one of the fastest-growing supermarkets in the country, and with this investment, we’re taking another big step in our journey.”
